"Quando a água baixar..."

O fotógrafo não apenas vê.
O fotógrafo também ouve.
Ao ouvir muitas pessoas que perderam tudo nesta tragédia, uma expressão me marcou:
"Quando a água baixar...".
"Quando a água baixar aí veremos o caos".
"Quando a água baixar o que será da minha família?".
"Quando a água baixar dezenas de corpos serão encontrados".
"Quando a água baixar terei que encarar a realidade".
"Quando a água baixar não serei mais quem um dia fui".
Estes rostos e estas palavras me perseguiram por muitos dias e noites.
Até que fui ao encontro do único silêncio que conheço.
O silêncio das imagens.

Listening to many people who lost everything in this tragedy, one expression struck me:
“When the water recedes...”.
“When the water recedes, we'll see the chaos.”
“When the water recedes, what will become of my family?”
“When the water recedes, dozens of bodies will be found.”
“When the water recedes, I will have to face reality.”
“When the water recedes, I will no longer be who I once was.”
These faces and these words haunted me for many days and nights.
Until I found the only silence I know.
The silence of images.
